A Florida summer is hot, humid and stormy most afternoons. The trick is to plan around it. Here are a few dates that do.
Float a spring-fed river
The Ichetucknee is fed by eight major springs, and its Blue Hole stays at 72 degrees. Tubers can launch from Dampier's Landing at the South Entrance until 5pm. The Midpoint Tube Launch was closed for repairs as of March 2026, so check before you go.

A cool evening at the Dali
The Dali Museum stays open until 8pm on Thursdays. Have a light bite at Cafe Gala and walk the garden once the sun is lower. It is an easy date when it is too hot to be outside.

Read the beach flags
Florida beaches use warning flags in four colors, with signs that explain each one. The state notes the flags do not specifically warn of rip currents, so check the National Weather Service forecast too. Swim near a lifeguard if you can.

Questions
Can the springs get too busy?
Yes. Ichetucknee can close to everyone on busy weekends and holidays once it is full, so arrive early.
What about afternoon storms?
Plan outdoor time for the morning or evening, and have an indoor backup like a museum.
Do the beach flags tell me about rip currents?
Not on their own. Check the National Weather Service forecast as well, and ask a lifeguard if unsure.
